Winter Weather — Warren, Pennsylvania

2026-01-17 · Warren, Pennsylvania

Event narrative

SNOW SQUALL. Webcams in Warren outlined near-zero visibility with heavy snowfall being observed on the webcam. Roads rapidly became snow covered over the course of 5 to 10 minutes within the snow squall.

Wider weather episode

A shortwave trough couple with an area of low pressure north of the region allowed for ample lift and moisture to funnel into northern Pennsylvania during the early afternoon hours of January 17th. Afternoon clearing ahead of snow showers allowed for marginal instability to form, allowing for a couple of snow squalls to form across Warren and McKean Counties. As the squalls moved farther east, limited instability allowed for the snow squalls to weaken with scattered snow showers continuing across northern Pennsylvania.
