Lake-Effect Snow in Northern Herkimer, New York

Lake-Effect Snow November 27, 2025 – November 28, 2025 · Northern Herkimer, New York

The wider storm

In the wake of a strong cold front, bands of lake effect snow brought moderate to heavy accumulations to portions of eastern New York from November 27 to November 29, 2025. The snow band initially set up across the Adirondacks during the afternoon hours on November 27, then dropped southward toward the Interstate 90 corridor on November 28. The band then eventually drifted farther south and weakened overnight into the early morning hours on November 29.

Total snowfall accumulations of 7 to 15 inches were observed across Herkimer, Fulton and Montgomery counties. These bands even brought accumulations of 3 to 6 inches across portions of the Capital District as well as in Hamilton County. The heavy snow resulted in a portion of Route 28 in southern Herkimer County to close due to the whiteout conditions.

Key impacts: transportation delays, road closures.
