Cocorahs observers reported 15.0 inches in Norwich, 12.4 inches at 5.2 SE Norwich, 12.7 inches in Preston, 12.0 inches at 0.6 ENE Colchester, and 12.0 inches at 2.4 NNW Ucassville. A trained spotter reported 10.0 inches at 3 ENE Franklin. The average snowfall across the zone was estimated to be around 12.0 inches.
Wider weather episode
A low pressure system emerged out of the Southern Plains and Texas and rode northeast through the Tennessee Valley and the Appalachians, before emerging just off the New Jersey coast. This produced a heavy snowfall across all of Southern Connecticut, with sleet, some of it heavy across a portion of the region.
