Event narrative

Trained spotters reported 15.0 inches in Englewood, 12.5 inches in Westwood, and 11.3 inches in River Vale. The public reported 13.9 inches in Little Ferry. Cocorahs reported 11.0 inches in River Edge and 10.5 inches in Fair Lawn. Average snowfall across the zone was estimated around 12 inches.

Wider weather episode

A low pressure system emerged out of the Southern Plains and Texas and rode northeast through the Tennessee Valley and the Appalachians, before emerging just off the New Jersey coast. This produced a heavy snowfall across all of Northeastern New Jersey, with sleet, some of it heavy across a large portion of the region.
