Event narrative

Trained spotters reported 13.5 inches at 2 ENE Oakland, and 11.3 inches with an earlier report before accumulation ended in Ramsey. The public reported 12.5 inches in Waldwick, and 11.0 inches at 1 NE Upper Saddle River. The average snowfall across the zone was estimated to be just above 12 inches.

Wider weather episode

A low pressure system emerged out of the Southern Plains and Texas and rode northeast through the Tennessee Valley and the Appalachians, before emerging just off the New Jersey coast. This produced a heavy snowfall across all of Northeastern New Jersey, with sleet, some of it heavy across a large portion of the region.
