Event narrative

A trained spotter reported 11.5 inches at 1 WNW Cedar Grove. The public reported 10.8 inches at 1 NE North Caldwell and 9.5 inches at 1 NNE Montclair. Average snowfall amounts across the zone came in under a foot at around 10 inches. There was also an indirect fatality with a 67 yr old male shoveling snow at 12:45 pm on 1/25/26 in Verona, NJ.

Wider weather episode

A low pressure system emerged out of the Southern Plains and Texas and rode northeast through the Tennessee Valley and the Appalachians, before emerging just off the New Jersey coast. This produced a heavy snowfall across all of Northeastern New Jersey, with sleet, some of it heavy across a large portion of the region.
