Event narrative

A cocorahs observer reported 10.5 inches at 1 WNW Irvington. The public reported 12.1 inches at 1 NW Newark, and 9.0 inches before mainly additional sleet accumulation at 1 SSE Nutley. Average snowfall totals were estimated to be just under 12 inches.

Wider weather episode

A low pressure system emerged out of the Southern Plains and Texas and rode northeast through the Tennessee Valley and the Appalachians, before emerging just off the New Jersey coast. This produced a heavy snowfall across all of Northeastern New Jersey, with sleet, some of it heavy across a large portion of the region.
