Newark Airport reported 11.7 inches of snow and sleet. A trained spotter reported 11.2 inches of snow and sleet in Cranford. Broadcast media reported 9.6 inches in Linden. Cocorahs reported 11.8 inches at 0.6 NNW Cranford. Average snowfall totals across the zone were estimated to be just above 10 inches.

Wider weather episode

A low pressure system emerged out of the Southern Plains and Texas and rode northeast through the Tennessee Valley and the Appalachians, before emerging just off the New Jersey coast. This produced a heavy snowfall across all of Northeastern New Jersey, with sleet, some of it heavy across a large portion of the region.
