Event narrative

A trained spotter reported 17.6 inches in New City, 13.5 inches in Thiells, 12.5 inches in Chestnut Ridge, 12.5 inches at 1 NNW Valley Cottage, 12.5 inches in Ramapo, and 12.2 inches in Nyack. The public reported 14.2 inches at 1 E Congers, and Cocorahs reported 14.6 inches in Stony Point. Average snowfall amounts across the zone were over a foot.

Wider weather episode

A low pressure system emerged out of the Southern Plains and Texas and rode northeast through the Tennessee Valley and the Appalachians, before emerging just off the New Jersey coast. This produced a heavy snowfall across all of Southeastern New York, with sleet, some of it heavy across a large portion of the region.
