A trained spotter reported 11.5 inches at 2 W Putnam Valley. A cocorahs observer reported 13.0 inches at 0.3 S Nelsonville. Amateur radio reported 11.0 inches of snow before some additional snow and potential sleet accumulation occurred after the report. Average snowfall across the zone was estimated to be around 12 inches.
Wider weather episode
A low pressure system emerged out of the Southern Plains and Texas and rode northeast through the Tennessee Valley and the Appalachians, before emerging just off the New Jersey coast. This produced a heavy snowfall across all of Southeastern New York, with sleet, some of it heavy across a large portion of the region.
