Trained spotters reported 16.5 inches at 2 SSW Golden's Bridge, 15.0 inches at 1 SE Sleepy Hollow, 14.0 inches at 1 SSW Jefferson Valley, and 13.0 inches at 1 ENE Peekskill. There were numerous other reports at or above 12 inches. The zone averaged above a foot of snow.
Wider weather episode
A low pressure system emerged out of the Southern Plains and Texas and rode northeast through the Tennessee Valley and the Appalachians, before emerging just off the New Jersey coast. This produced a heavy snowfall across all of Southeastern New York, with sleet, some of it heavy across a large portion of the region.
