A NWS Employee reported 9.4 inches in 3 WNW Riverhead. The following subsequent snowfall reports are as follows; 12.0 inches in Orient, 12.0 inches in Mattituck, 11.0 inches in 3 ENE Orient, 10.1 inches in Upton, and 10.0 inches in Baiting Hollow. Estimated average snowfall across the zone was more than 10 inches, but less than 1 foot.
Wider weather episode
A low pressure system emerged out of the Southern Plains and Texas and rode northeast through the Tennessee Valley and the Appalachians, before emerging just off the New Jersey coast. This produced a heavy snowfall across all of Southeastern New York, with sleet, some of it heavy across a large portion of the region.
