Strong Wind — Greenup, Kentucky
2025-12-29 · Greenup, Kentucky
Wider weather episode
In the wake of a cold front early in the morning on December 29th, strengthening wind gusts took shape across northeast Kentucky for most of the day. The strongest gust of note from that day was recorded at the Emergency Operations Center in Boyd County of 48 miles per hour shortly after midnight, and remained elevated through the morning and afternoon. Tens to thousands of homes lost power in the midst of the elevated winds due to downed trees and power lines that occurred across the area. The pressure gradient eased its grip over the area by that evening as high pressure began to build into the Tennessee Valley.
