Downed trees and power lines, in addition to numerous power outages, occurred in southwest Virginia beginning on the morning of December 29th in the wake of a cold front. Elevated winds of around 35 to 40 miles per hour prevailed over Buchanan and Dickenson Counties through that evening before subsiding in response to building high pressure from the west.
