Event narrative

There was no change in drought conditions through the month of January. The western half of the zone remained in Severe(D2) drought and the east in Moderate(D1) drought.

Wider weather episode

One category improvements were noted in drought severity in areas that had previously been in Extreme(D3) or even some Severe(D2) drought. By the end of the month, there were no areas in southern New Mexico in Extreme(D3) drought or worse.
