Event narrative
D2 Severe Drought conditions covered much of the western 3/4ths of the county during the month of December. No changes in drought category were observed over the course of the month. Precipitation for the month was around 0.25 to 0.50 inches below normal across the northern two-thirds of the county with near to slightly above normal precipitation across the southern third of the county. The dry pattern in place extended back into the summer months.
Wider weather episode
D2 Severe Drought conditions persisted across parts of northwestern Wisconsin during the month of December. No changes in drought status were observed over the course of the month. Precipitation for the month was above normal across the southern portion of the drought area with below normal conditions near Lake Superior. Despite the above normal precipitation in part of the area, it was not enough to counteract the extended dry period in place.
