Event narrative

Heavy snowfall of 4 inches occurred in Jefferson County. 911 Dispatch reported hazardous road conditions and several vehicle slide-offs.

Wider weather episode

An upper level trough and potent mid-level vorticity maximum rotated over the Ohio Valley December 1-2, 2025. The deep mid-level trough helped increase lower level southwesterly winds and moisture advection into southern Indiana. Deep moisture and cold temperatures led to the development of moderate to heavy snowfall. Sleet briefly mixed in in some areas late on December 1, before precipitation quickly changed over to all snow from west to east during the early morning hours of December 2, 2025. Robust mid-level frontogenesis led to the development of heavier mesoscale snow bands. In the end, a swath of heavy snow totaling around 4 inches occurred in far southern Indiana.
