Wider weather episode

A strong cold front moved across western Kentucky, followed by a ridge of high pressure that originated from Siberia, bringing prolonged sub-freezing temperatures beginning on the 23rd. Breezy northerly winds with gusts over 20 mph caused wind chills to plummet between -1 to -9 degrees during the evening hours and continued into the morning of the 24th. Southwest portions of the Kentucky Purchase region experienced another interval of dangerous wind chills on the 25th while the Kentucky Pennyrile region remained warmer above advisory criteria when a major winter storm was ongoing.
