Event narrative

The McGrath SNOWTEL (MCSA2) reported a snow depth increase of 7 inches over the course of 24 hours, verifying a Winter Storm Warning that was in effect for the region. The snow depth increased from 6 inches to 13 inches throughout the course of the day December 2nd. In addition strong winds gusting to 40 mph were observed at McGrath as the snow as falling.

Wider weather episode

Surface low pressure tracking into the Bering Sea pushed a series of fronts across the Yukon Delta region, providing enough lift and moisture to produce bands of heavy snowfall along with gusty winds across most of the region and into the Western Interior.
