In the wake of the freezing rain/ice storm, a cold front crossed the region bringing a return to colder conditions as well as gusty winds from the afternoon hours on December 29 through December 30, 2025. Widespread wind gusts on the order of 35 to 50 mph were observed with a few localized gusts in excess of 50 mph including at the Hudson Valley Regional Airport and the New York State Mesonet near Tannersville. Along the leading edge of colder air, a localized snow squall passed through the City of Albany during the early evening hours on December 29. In addition, lake effect snow showers developed mainly within the Mohawk Valley bringing localized snowfall amounts of 6 to 10 inches in spots. Some of these snow bands extended into the Capital Region/Hudson Valley bringing amounts of 3 to 5 inches, especially across Saratoga and Schenectady counties.
