At the Eagle Airport (PAEG) winds increased and wind chill dropped well below -60F during the early morning hours of December 24th. With wind gusts as high as 60 mph, wind chill values were as low as -75F during the morning hours of Christmas Eve.
Wider weather episode
A very strong and cold surface high that was centered over the Yukon territory managed to bring several days of extremely cold temperatures to much of Interior Eastern Alaska. As a storm system approached on Christmas Eve, wind speeds started to increase from the east and southeast. Resulting wind chills dropped to dangerously cold levels as a result.
