The Knoxville McGhee Tyson Airport ASOS recorded a 54 knot wind gust during the passage of severe thunderstorms.

Wider weather episode

Strong cold front brought a line of showers and thunderstorms that were able to successfully transport strong to severe wind gusts to the surface in portions of East Tennessee. Additionally, winds aloft ahead of the front produced several instances of high wind criteria non-thunderstorm wind gusts.
