A strong low pressure system tracking from the Upper Great Lakes into Quebec brought a period of rainfall and strong winds to western Massachusetts from the evening hours on December 18 to the early morning hours on December 20, 2025. Winds started out southerly from the evening hours December 18 into the morning hours on December 19 before shifting to the west during the afternoon and evening hours on December 19 behind the passage of a strong cold front. Widespread wind gusts on the order of 40 to 55 mph were observed both ahead and behind the cold front with a peak wind gust of 56 mph measured at the Pittsfield Municipal Airport.
