Event narrative

Generally 3 to 8 inches of snow fell across the area mainly south of Glenwood Springs towards Basalt and Carbondale with 1 to 2 inches of snow elsewhere. Locally higher amounts of 11.2 inches of snow was reported at Basalt 5.8 E.

Wider weather episode

A surge of deeper moisture moved across the area accompanied by a strong low pressure trough and upper level jet. This resulted in moderate snow across the central Colorado mountains and I-70 corridor from south of Glenwood Springs towards Basalt and Carbondale. The heaviest snow occurred across the northwest Colorado mountains where the Elkheads and Park Range Mountains received up to 2 to 3 feet of snow. The strong jet also resulted in some strong wind gusts in the mountains resulting in blowing snow.
