Event narrative

The US Drought Monitor indicated Severe (D2) Drought across the northern two-thirds of Inland Kenedy County through December 22nd. Just enough rain fell soon after to improve conditions to D1 (Moderate) across the eastern portion of the Severe area after December 16th, with Severe Conditions maintaining across northwestern/north central Kenedy and a sliver of Extreme (D3) maintaining from just west of Sarita through the Brooks County line - through the end of the year.

Wider weather episode

Modest rainfall, seasonably dry even for the typical dry season across the southern tip of Texas, persisted through December and maintained areas of Severe (D2) to Extreme (D3) Drought in Kenedy, Brooks, Jim Hogg, far northern Hidalgo, Starr, and Zapata County.
