A sliver of Extreme (D2) Drought continued through all of December across the northern tip of Northern Hidalgo County, just south of the Brooks County line.

Modest rainfall, seasonably dry even for the typical dry season across the southern tip of Texas, persisted through December and maintained areas of Severe (D2) to Extreme (D3) Drought in Kenedy, Brooks, Jim Hogg, far northern Hidalgo, Starr, and Zapata County.
