The wider storm

An approaching upper-level trough interacted with anomalously high moisture across west Texas, resulting in shower and thunderstorm development that afternoon and evening. Initially isolated to scattered showers and storms eventually intensified and coalesced into a broken line as they moved across the Permian Basin. Large hail was reported near Monahans before the line developed. Heavy rain also led to flash flooding in the Midland/Odessa area. Additional convection developed later that night, but no additional severe reports were received.
