The West Texas Mesonet station 66 Hobbs, NM/ Lea County measured instances of high winds for a brief period (about an hour), including sustained winds greater than 40 mph and a 58 mph wind gust.

The wider storm

A developing surface lee cyclone and a strong jet aloft yielded gusty southwesterly to westerly winds on the 17th. High winds were recorded at various locations across southeast New Mexico and in/around the higher terrain of west Texas.
