Wider weather episode
A weather system resulted in a light wintry mix of precipitation during the afternoon of January 4th. Surface temperatures were about 5 to 10 degrees below freezing, under a slightly warmer air mass just above the surface. This resulted in a few hours of light freezing rain or drizzle, and ultimately light ice accretion, creating slick surfaces for a number of counties. The farther north, the airmass was cooler just above the surface, resulting in more snow mixing in with any freezing precipitation. This limited impacts for Polk, Barron, and Rusk counties.
