What the National Weather Service wrote

Wind gust came in from a private weather station as thunderstorms tracked east across the Pamlico River. Report came in via WeatherFlow.

The wider storm

A warm front lifted north across eastern North Carolina during the morning hours of February twentieth which allowed for a warm, moist, and unstable airmass to set up across portions of North Carolina during the late morning and afternoon hours. At the same time, a cold front located across the Appalachians during the morning hours quickly pushed east across North Carolina and across the area waters during the afternoon of February twentieth. Along and just out ahead of this frontal boundary, a broken line of showers and thunderstorms developed. With a somewhat favorable environment in place, a few isolated storms became strong in nature bringing strong and damaging wind gusts to portions of the inland rivers and sounds of eastern North Carolina during the afternoon hours.

Began near Bayview Ferry Terminal (35.3899, -76.7196).
