Widespread snowfall occurred across the county during the pre-dawn hours through the early afternoon of the 8th. Amounts ranged from 3.0 inches at Todd to 7.0 inches at a location two miles north-northwest of Boone and also two miles east of Lovill. Key Impacts: Hazardous travel.
Wider weather episode
The passage of an upper level disturbance and plenty of cold air at and near the surface, allowed for the development of a widespread area of snow. Within this broader region of snow, heavier snow bands developed allowing for locally higher amounts. Across the mountains of northwest North Carolina, snowfall amounts ranged from three to seven inches. The high end of this range occurred in and around Boone in Watauga County.
