Powerline broke from non-thunderstorm winds near the 8000 block of Highway 301. Peak wind gusts during the day were around 45 mph. This led to the development of the wildfire that spread southeastward just north of Folkston.
The wider storm
Breezy northwesterly winds and a very dry airmass develop in the wake of departing cold front. This resulted in critically low humidity values and dangerous fire conditions and the issuance of a Red Flag Warning for portions of southeast Georgia south of Waycross.
