Drought February 1, 2026 – February 28, 2026 · Eastern Alachua, Florida

What the National Weather Service wrote

Lack of rainfall during February combined with multiple hard freeze events resulted in continuing Extreme Drought (D3) conditions. A wildfire in Gainesville caused all lanes of CR-232 (NE 53rd St) to close between N Main St and NE 15th St.

The wider storm

Below normal rainfall as well as multiple hard freezes inland continued during the month of February, persisting extreme drought (D3) conditions for the same areas as January, and also upgrading some severe drought zones (D2) to extreme drought (D3). Severe to extreme drought conditions combined with dried available fuels resulted in numerous wildfires developing across northeast Florida.
