The EMA measured 11 inches of snow 5 miles north-northwest of Laurel.

A strong winter storm began Saturday night and continued through Sunday as it passed over an entrenched arctic airmass. A strengthening surface low over the Tennessee Valley combined with upper level dynamics to produce snowfall of up to a foot in some areas.
