High Wind March 14, 2026 – March 15, 2026 · Eddy County Plains, New Mexico

66 mph
Measured gust (57 kt)

What the National Weather Service wrote

The West Texas Mesonet station 164 Carlsbad Caverns NP measured a period of intermittent high winds, including a gust of 66 mph.

The wider storm

An upper-level trough moved across the Plains during the morning of the 15th. West Texas and southeast New Mexico ended up on the southern end of the trough close to the attendant jet. As a result, high winds were recorded in/around the Guadalupe Mountains in the early morning hours. Later in the morning and into the afternoon, a front pushed through the area. This yielded a brief period of high wind gusts at KMAF. Downsloping winds also yielded high winds at the Toyavale Mesonet site.
