A light wintry mix developed during the early morning hours of the 21st across portions of western Kentucky. Temperatures were highly variable across the region between 32-36 degrees, but colder ground temperatures allowed for areas of light freezing rain to develop before temperatures quickly warmed that day, resulting in slippery and icy conditions on roadways. Owensboro in Daviess County, KY experienced multiple slide offs and accidents while Marshall County, KY had ice on roadways that led to several car accidents. A single vehicle was involved in a rollover at the intersection of Moorman Cemetery Road and US 431 North in Muhlenberg County, KY, causing the northbound lanes to shut down. Slippery roads also occurred from McCracken to Henderson County, KY during the morning commute. A 57 year old female was driving a Chevy SUV north on Oaks Road near Reidland when a 42 year old female driving south in a Ford SUV hit a section of ice and spun into the northbound lane, causing an accident. Both drivers were injured, along with a 13 year old passenger. The 57 year old female did not survive her injuries after receiving treatment. Key Impacts: transportation delays, traffic accidents.
