Event narrative

Freezing rain and sleet began in the morning on the 24th. CoCoRaHS observers in Johnson City reported total accumulation of sleet and ice of 0.3 and 0.5.

Wider weather episode

A deep upper-level low moved across northern Mexico bringing a strong cold front through South-Central Texas. This resulted in very cold air in the boundary layer with a layer of above freezing air aloft which produced sleet and freezing rain.
