Light freezing rain began during the afternoon of the 24th. The Emergency Manager reported multiple vehicle accidents on icy county roads during the evening.

Wider weather episode

A deep upper-level low moved across northern Mexico bringing a strong cold front through South-Central Texas. This resulted in very cold air in the boundary layer with a layer of above freezing air aloft which produced sleet and freezing rain.
