Sleet began during the evening of the 24th. Storm total accumulation in the northwestern part of the country near Calaveras Lake was 0.5.

Wider weather episode

A deep upper-level low moved across northern Mexico bringing a strong cold front through South-Central Texas. This resulted in very cold air in the boundary layer with a layer of above freezing air aloft which produced sleet and freezing rain.
