The wind chill temperature dropped to 7 degrees at the New Braunfels National Airport and 10 degrees in Seguin.

A deep upper-level low moved across northern Mexico bringing a strong cold front through South-Central Texas. This resulted in very cold air in the boundary layer with a layer of above freezing air aloft which produced sleet and freezing rain.
