Strong lake effect snow showers occurred January 28 through January 29th, impacting Luce, Schoolcraft, and Alger counties in Upper Michigan. As the event progressed, a dominant lake effect band slowly progressed westward, which eventually focused impacts into Alger County. Heavy snowfall was observed, with snowfall rates of 1 inch per hour or greater and gusty northwest winds contributing to blowing snow and reduced visibilities.
