Two hikers were rescued by helicopter near mile marker 5 of the Hana Highway due to rising stream levels cutting them off from the rest of their group.

A slow moving cold front moved down the island chain from January 20th through January 22nd. The front stalled in the vicinity of Maui County on January 21st, with the highest rain of 1 to 3 inches impacting many statewide north and east facing slopes.
