Dense Fog February 14, 2026 · Central Yampa River Basin, Colorado
What the National Weather Service wrote
Localized dense fog developed within the Yampa River Basin during the morning of February 14. The KEEO ASOS at the Meeker Coulter Field Airport reported about a half an hour of reduced visibility due to freezing fog. During this period, visibility dropped below 1/4 mile for about ten minutes as well. No reports of injuries, damages, or fatalities were received.
The wider storm
Following multiple days of rain and snow showers, drier northwesterly flow on the backside of a shortwave trough brought clearer skies on the evening of February 13 into the morning of February 14. With ample surface moisture still in place from the prior days' precipitation and strong radiational cooling from clear skies, dense fog developed across many valleys.
