A measured high wind gust of 84 mph was recorded at 330 AM Local Standard Time at a mesonet station located at Montauk Point, sited at an elevation of 55 feet above ground level and 125 feet above sea level. In addition, a measured wind gust of 63 mph was recorded at mesonet site XNAP - Napeague at 109 AM Local Standard Time.
The wider storm
The center of a major Nor'easter passed nearby to the east of southeastern New York during the morning of February 23, 2026. The resulting strong pressure gradient brought high winds to the area during this time.
