Winter Weather March 3, 2026 · Clearfield, Pennsylvania

What the National Weather Service wrote

A light wintry mix fell across Clearfield County throughout the morning and early afternoon of March 3, 2026. The Clearfield-Lawrence Township Airport measured 0.18 inches of ice accretion. The winter weather conditions caused a tractor trailer to crash into a guide rail on Interstate 80 near mile marker 135 in Cooper Township, causing an estimated 50 to 100 gallons of diesel to leak from the tank. No waterways or storm drains were affected.

The wider storm

Increasing moisture into the region with temperatures near freezing at the surface allowed for a wintry mix to begin across central Pennsylvania during the early morning hours of March 3, 2026. A warm nose just above the surface allowed for freezing rain at onset and throughout much of the event outside of portions of northwestern Pennsylvania where snowfall was the predominant precipitation type. Freezing rain accretions were mainly between one-to-two tenths of an inch across the region, allowing for slick conditions. Incidents in Clearfield, Clinton, and Lancaster counties produced multiple injuries during the morning hours of March 3rd before precipitation began to taper off during the afternoon and evening hours. Incidents in Tioga and York counties were also reported with no injuries reported from these accidents.
