Event narrative

The local power company reported two trees in the lines out the road in Juneau, north of Tee Harbor, causing a power outage. The Juneau airport ASOS measured a peak gust of 47kt (54mph) at 1056pm. The Marine Exchange station at the AML dock downtown measured a peak gust of 50kt (58mph) at 1155pm. Also in the 10 and 11pm hours, other nearby stations at elevation topped out at 88mph at the Tram and 82mph at Eaglecrest.

The City and Borough of Juneau continued with an avalanche advisory during this time and DOT had Thane Road closed due to the high avalanche danger.

Wider weather episode

After an active period of multiple systems moving through the area bringing periods of high winds to the southern panhandle, a stronger system arrived bringing high winds to majority of the Panhandle on the 13th into the 14th. This low center tracked northward through the eastern gulf, while deepening, along with a storm force front. The low center moved onshore along the NE Gulf Coast in vicinity of Yakutat overnight Tuesday the 13th. As the low jumped inland, winds spiked up through the inner channels, lasting longest for the Skagway area.
