The mesonet station at the Annette Island Packing Company began measuring high wind during the morning of the 11th, lasting into the 2pm hour. The peak gust of 71mph as measured at 120pm. Other high elevation sites on the island reached gusts of 86mph at Yellow Hill and 104mph at Chester Lake that afternoon.
Wider weather episode
A low center with an occluding frontal system tracked northward into the eastern Gulf of Alaska through the 11th. The low was slowly weakening as it approached, but caused a short period of high winds over portions of the southern panhandle.
