What the National Weather Service wrote
Bitterly cold temperatures and gusty winds led to dangerously cold wind chills during the morning hours of February 7th across Clearfield County. The coldest wind chill observed was -25 degrees near Rockton with Clearfield-Lawrence Airport also recording a wind chill of -23 degrees, both during the early morning hours of February 7, 2026.
The wider storm
A potent area of low pressure stationed across southern Ontario allowed for a surface cold front to begin tracking across the Great Lake region during that afternoon and evening hours of February 6, 2026. As this cold front approached portions of central Pennsylvania, rapid drops in visibility were beginning to be observed on webcams due to snow squalls. These snow squalls continued across portions of southwestern Pennsylvania during the late evening hours of February 6th, mainly across Somerset County. As the cold front continued progressing across the region, snow showers intensity waned; however, an isolated snow squall in Schuylkill County was also observed with a rapid drop to near-zero visibility on Interstate 81. Cold air and gusty winds in the wake of the cold frontal passage allowed for dangerously cold wind chills across much of western Pennsylvania. No injuries or fatalities were reported with these snow squalls and the extreme cold that followed the cold frontal passage as temperatures began to warm during the late morning and early afternoon hours of February 7th.
