What the National Weather Service wrote

A buoy located about two-miles NNE of Sandusky recorded a peak straight-line wind gust of 44-mph from a line of thunderstorms.

The wider storm

During the late morning through early afternoon of the 11th, an occluded surface low drifted eastward from near Green Bay to northwestern Lower MI. This allowed the accompanying warm front to drift northeastward from northwest PA into southwestern NY, while the low's cold front swept eastward from south-central Lower MI and northeastern IN to central Lake Erie and north-central OH. Ahead of the cold front and within the warm sector, isolated peak straight-line convective wind gusts of gale-force occurred along the Lake Erie shore from the Sandusky area to the Cleveland area. The gust in the Sandusky area was generated by a line of multicell thunderstorms that persisted generally eastward, while the gust in Cleveland was generated by a cluster of multicell rain showers that persisted northeastward, behind the aforementioned line of storms. These showers and storms occurred in an ambient environment with moderate effective bulk shear and weak MUCAPE.

Began near The Islands (41.4900, -82.7000).
