The wider storm

On the evening of February 18th, a thunderstorm developed over Lake Erie and tracked southeast onshore across southern Erie County. As the thunderstorm tracked onshore it strengthened and briefly became severe. The combination of favorable mid-level lapse rates, low freezing levels and shear allowed the storm to strengthen enough to produce one inch hail in Angola. After producing the hail, the storm quickly weakened as it continued to track across Erie County.
